Two former law enforcement officers had drug related charges against them dropped when they appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court before the Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh.
Charges were levelled against Arleigh Byer and Cosbert Sergeant following the discovery of 35kilos of cocaine at the scene of a double murder in October 2012.
The two men were at the time custodians of the house in Cedar Valley, where the bodies of Dominican nations Alix Riviere and Alwin Robin were discovered. Both men were shot to death.
The prosecution was forced to withdraw the charges against the men, since no evidence was tendered to link them to the drug.
Byer and Sergeant are however not completely out of the woods. They are still facing 9 counts of money laundering.
Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin and Lawrence Daniel appeared on the defendants’ behalf.
