Ezzy Rattigan’s Golden Cup’ outplayed all other songs for J’ouvert and on Carnival Tuesday to win the 2013 Road March title.
The tune, which earned him the Jumpy Monarch crown was played 174 times with his closest rival being Hard Knaxx’s “Jam Jam” that played 82 times.
The third place finisher was ‘ Technotron’ by the Redd Hott Flames that was played 73 times.
“I feel normal,” Rattigan said, when asked about his latest victory.
His song was initially deemed ‘too local’ and unfit to play on radio by deejays, he explained in a previous interview.
The five-time party monarch competitor said he refused to play dead and opted to be more creative to get around that hurdle.
“When I went to release this track, no deejay in Antigua wanted to play the song because it seemed it sounded like filth to them because I’m a local artiste,” he said.
“International artistes bring their music with the same type of things that I have in my song all the time and it get played on radio and it was hard for my song to be played.
“I took it to the streets, burned a couple hundred CDs and gave out to friends and family members and fans and from there it hit the radio stations and once that happened, it just took off like a jet.”
The other big winners for carnival were Revelers Mas Club that copped the Band Of the Year title for the 13th straight year in the large band category with its portrayal of ‘A Visit to the Mother Land’.
Ali and Associates’ ‘Dazzling’ won in the medium bands category, while Just Friends was the winner for small bands with ‘Tribal Mas’.
In the Topical Fantasy category, LIME Dynamics took first place with ‘All that Jazz’.
