St. John’s, Antigua August 26, 2013 – Today, Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) announced the formation of the MSJMC Foundation Inc.
The MSJMC Foundation Inc. will function as the sole fundraising arm of the organization. Its purpose is to raise funds that support the programs and services of the medical centre.
“We are excited to be establishing a non-profit organization that will work solely on fulfilling the hospital’s vital mission of improving the health and healthcare of the community we serve. This makes MSJMC one of the first hospitals in the Caribbean to have a Foundation.” MSJMC CEO, Sean DesChamps said. “The work of the MSJMC Foundation will benefit all Antigua and Barbudans for many years to come.”
The foundation’s interim trustees are Milton Pringle, MSJMC Board Chairman, Sean DesChamps, MSJMC CEO and Dwayna Derrick, President of Friends of MSJMC. A search and screening committee will be convened to identify qualified candidates who could serve on the foundation’s board of trustees. Once the nominees meet the requirements set forth in the foundation bylaws as well as any other criteria that the search committee independently determines, they will become members of the board.
“The hospital is vital to the community. We do our best to make sure essential resources are in place, ensuring the best possible care is always available – right here, in our own community,” said Salma Crump, Head of Marketing & Communications. “Philanthropic gifts are pivotal for this to happen, all the time, every time. With each donation it advances our ability to maintain the best care providers, facilities and state of the art medical equipment ready for you and those you care about.”
The MSJMC Foundation will be an independent, non-profit organization whose direction and activities are set by its board of trustees. Plans are also in the works to have the foundation registered as a non-profit organization (charity status) in the USA, Canada, and UK, which would provide the necessary tax benefits to donors living outside of the Caribbean.
